Duvan Zapata is poised to extend his contract with Torino until June 2028, according to reports in Italy. The agreement, currently in its final stages, represents a significant commitment from both the player and the club, effectively securing Zapata’s future with the Granata for the foreseeable future.
This contract extension goes beyond simply adding years to Zapata’s deal; it was a prerequisite for the Colombian striker to remain at Torino for the upcoming season. The 33-year-old’s previous contract was set to expire in twelve months, leaving his future uncertain and potentially opening the door for a departure this summer. This new agreement removes that ambiguity.
Zapata joined Torino in August 2022 from Atalanta, initially on a loan deal which was then made permanent. He has become a key figure in the Torino attack, contributing consistently with goals and providing a physical presence that complements the team’s overall style of play. Last season, Zapata made 34 appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing 2 assists.
Prior to his time at Atalanta, Zapata had spells with Napoli, Udinese, and Sampdoria in Serie A, demonstrating his longevity and adaptability within the Italian top flight. He also has 13 caps for the Colombian national team, scoring 2 goals. His experience and proven goalscoring record made him an attractive option for Torino when they sought to strengthen their forward line.
The extension ensures Torino retain a proven goalscorer and a valuable asset ahead of the new Serie A campaign. It also provides stability to their attacking options, allowing coach Ivan Juric to plan effectively for the future. Securing Zapata's long-term future is a positive step for Torino as they aim to continue their progress in Serie A.
