Alexander Nübel’s three-year loan spell at VfB Stuttgart has come to an end, the Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday. Stuttgart thanked the goalkeeper for his contributions over the past three seasons via social media, signaling the completion of his temporary move.
The 29-year-old will now return to parent club Bayern Munich, though reports suggest his stay in Bavaria will be short-lived. According to German publication Bild, Bayern are seeking a fee of between €10 and €15 million for Nübel’s permanent transfer.
Nübel initially joined Bayern in 2020 from Schalke 04, but was immediately loaned to Monaco for two seasons. He then spent the subsequent three campaigns with Stuttgart, establishing himself as a key player and gaining valuable Bundesliga experience. He has earned three caps for the German national team.
His time at Stuttgart saw him become a fan favorite, consistently delivering strong performances in goal. The club’s announcement acknowledged his successful period with the team, highlighting the positive impact he had during his time there. Nübel's return to Bayern presents a potential goalkeeping dilemma for the club, with Manuel Neuer remaining the established number one.
Bild reports that both Manchester City and Juventus have expressed interest in acquiring Nübel, potentially leading to a competitive transfer battle this summer. The interest from these clubs underscores Nübel’s growing reputation as a capable and reliable goalkeeper. A move to either club would likely offer Nübel the opportunity for more regular first-team football.
