Oaktree, the investment firm that took control of Inter Milan just over a year ago, is enacting significant changes across the club, from financial restructuring to infrastructure improvements and a revised transfer policy. The firm’s influence is extending into all areas of operation as Inter aims for long-term stability and success.
According to reports in the Italian press, Oaktree’s tenure has already yielded positive financial results, with Inter posting its first profitable balance sheet in the club’s history. This financial health is being reinvested into key areas, including upgrades to the club’s training facilities at Appiano Gentile and Interello, as well as bolstering the youth setup with a focus on the Under 23 team. A central component of Oaktree’s long-term vision is also the development of a plan for a new San Siro stadium.
While maintaining a competitive squad remains a priority, Oaktree is reportedly prioritizing financial sustainability in the transfer market. This approach represents a shift from previous eras at the club, where significant expenditure was sometimes undertaken to secure immediate results. The current strategy emphasizes building a team capable of challenging for honors while adhering to strict budgetary constraints.
Oaktree assumed control of Inter in June 2023 after former owner Suning struggled with financial difficulties. The takeover was structured as a loan, with the possibility of a full acquisition depending on certain conditions being met. The firm’s arrival brought a sense of stability to a club that had faced uncertainty in recent years.
Inter finished the 2023-24 Serie A season as champions, securing their 20th Scudetto title. This success, achieved under coach Simone Inzaghi, provides a solid foundation for Oaktree to build upon as they implement their long-term strategy. The club will look to continue competing at the highest level in both domestic and European competitions while ensuring a financially responsible approach to player recruitment and overall club management. This sustainable model aims to secure Inter’s future as a leading force in Italian and European football.
