Orsolini Ends Goal Drought as Bologna See Off Lecce
Bologna secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Lecce at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara, with a much-needed goal from winger Mattia Orsolini capping a dominant performance. The win consolidates Bologna's hold on 8th place in Serie A ahead of their crucial Europa Conference League return leg against Aston Villa.
The home side took the lead in the 26th minute through a simple finish from Remo Freuler. The Swiss midfielder tapped in from close range after a shot from Orsolini, the game's outstanding player, had rebounded off the crossbar. Bologna, who had not won at home since February, created the majority of the chances, with Lecce offering little in response. The result was sealed in the 92nd minute when Orsolini, set up by Federico Bernardeschi, fired past the Lecce goalkeeper to end a three-month goal drought for the winger.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the goal was a just reward for Orsolini, who was a constant threat throughout the match. The 2-0 victory provides a significant morale boost for Vincenzo Italiano's side ahead of their European fixture. The result leaves Bologna firmly in the top half of the table, while Lecce remain mired in a relegation battle after a fourth consecutive defeat. The visitors, who have now gone four matches without a win, offered little in attack and rarely troubled Bologna's 18-year-old debutant goalkeeper, Massimo Pessina.
The match was effectively controlled by Bologna from the outset, with Lecce's only clear chance falling to Stulic in the first half. Bologna's dominance was reflected in the statistics, with the hosts having 22 attempts on goal. Orsolini, in particular, was a persistent threat, hitting the woodwork and forcing several saves from Lecce's Wladimiro Falcone. The victory allows Bologna to look ahead to their European return leg with renewed confidence, while Lecce's situation grows more precarious with each defeat.
