Paris Saint-Germain are considering a move for Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne, according to reports from the Daily Mail, confirmed by L’Équipe. The French international could return to the club ten years after departing the French capital. Digne currently represents France at the World Cup, where he has established himself as the first-choice left-back during the knockout stages.
The 32-year-old is viewed as a potential competitor to Nuno Mendes at PSG, with the Daily Mail describing him as the “ideal alternative” to the Portuguese full-back. Digne began his professional career with Lille before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, spending three seasons with the club and making 45 appearances across all competitions. He then moved to Barcelona in 2016, followed by a spell at Everton.
Digne joined Aston Villa in January 2022 for a reported fee of around €30 million and signed a contract extension with the Birmingham club last summer, committing his future until 2028. Despite the existing long-term deal, PSG’s interest signals a potential shift for the experienced defender. He has enjoyed consistent form in the Premier League, providing seven assists in 44 games across all competitions this season.
Aston Villa also saw success this season, with Digne playing a key role in their Europa League campaign, culminating in a trophy win. With 62 international caps for France, Digne brings a wealth of experience to any potential suitor. Should a deal materialize, Digne’s return to Paris would strengthen their options at left-back and provide competition for places within the squad.
