Parma’s Chief Executive Officer, Federico Cherubini, has stated the club intends to discuss a contract extension with manager Carlos Cuesta at the end of the current Serie A season. Cherubini’s comments, reported by ParmaToday, come after a strong performance from the team despite a late setback in a recent match against Inter Milan.
Cherubini praised both the players and Cuesta for their performance, highlighting the growth of the squad under the manager’s guidance. He described Cuesta’s appointment as a “winning gamble,” acknowledging the risk involved in entrusting a young team to a relatively unproven coach. The club were convinced, however, that Cuesta possessed the necessary qualities to succeed.
Cuesta took charge of Parma in the summer of 2025, and has overseen a period of development for the club. Prior to joining Parma, Cuesta had not held a senior managerial position, making his appointment a significant leap in his career. His success in stabilizing and improving Parma’s performance has drawn attention within Italian football.
Cherubini clarified that contract negotiations aren’t immediately necessary, as Cuesta is already under contract until 2027, with the club holding an option for a further year, extending the deal to 2028. The club will first focus on completing the current season, with two important matches remaining, before initiating discussions with Cuesta and his staff to assess their continued alignment and mutual ambitions. Cherubini drew a parallel to the situation with Cristian Chivu last year, but emphasized the exceptional work Cuesta has delivered.
The confirmation of the extension option provides stability for Parma and signals the club’s satisfaction with Cuesta’s performance, potentially setting the stage for a longer-term project under his leadership.
