Pedro Rodríguez, the 38-year-old Spanish forward, is contemplating a return to his hometown club Tenerife to conclude his professional career, according to an interview with Spanish broadcaster Rtvc. The former Barcelona and Lazio player indicated a strong desire to finish playing in the Canary Islands, with Tenerife recently achieving promotion to the Spanish Segunda División.
Rodríguez spent five seasons with Lazio, becoming a popular figure in Rome, and feels his time at the club concluded positively. He stated he is currently evaluating his options, with a move to Tenerife being a consistently appealing prospect. “With Lazio, I think I closed in the best way,” Pedro said. “Now I don’t know what I will do. Tenerife? They always ask me this question and I must say that it is an idea that has always fascinated me, we are evaluating it, we will see what happens.”
Pedro’s career has been marked by significant success, most notably during his time at Barcelona where he won numerous La Liga titles and the Champions League. He later added to his trophy cabinet with a Premier League title during his spell at Chelsea, and also spent a season with Roma before joining Lazio in 2019. At Lazio, he contributed to their Coppa Italia triumph in 2023 and consistently provided valuable experience and attacking threat.
The potential move to Tenerife represents a sentimental homecoming for Pedro, who began his career with the club’s youth system. While financial details and contract terms have not been disclosed, the move would allow him to end his playing days closer to family and friends, in a region he holds dear. Should the transfer materialize, it would provide Tenerife with a high-profile player to lead their campaign in the Segunda División and offer a fitting end to a distinguished career.
