Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has indicated the club could make a move for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, potentially to play alongside Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior. The comments came during an interview with El Chiringuito, as relayed by AS, where Perez discussed potential signings for next season.
While acknowledging the club’s history of acquiring top talent – referencing past signings like Figo, Kaka, Ronaldo, and Beckham – Perez remained circumspect when directly asked about Haaland, stating he does not comment on such matters and that it falls under the remit of the sporting director. However, his broader comments suggest an openness to adding another world-class forward to the squad.
Haaland currently has a long-term contract with Manchester City, extending until 2034, and the club have reportedly no intention of selling the Norwegian. He has been a prolific goalscorer since joining City, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most feared strikers. Despite this, Madrid’s interest has been a long-standing topic in transfer speculation.
Perez also praised Mbappe as Real Madrid’s current best player, highlighting his Golden Boot win and acknowledging the need for continued improvement within the squad. He also suggested that a contract renewal for Vinicius Junior is not an urgent matter, leaving ample time for negotiations. The president also spoke positively about incoming manager Jose Mourinho, stating he likes all coaches and that Mourinho raised the club’s competitiveness during his previous tenure.
Reports indicate that Mourinho has already reached an agreement in principle with Madrid over a three-year contract, with discussions already underway regarding various issues, including criticism of Mbappe. This signals a significant change in management for the Spanish giants, with expectations of a renewed push for success in both La Liga and the Champions League. The potential addition of Haaland, while currently unlikely given City’s stance, would further bolster Madrid’s attacking options under the new manager.
