Pedro Porro has signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur, ending speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City and Real Madrid. The agreement, sealed with the player and his representatives, extends Porro’s stay in North London until June 2031, with an option to extend until June 2032. The deal includes a salary increase for the Spanish right-back, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Interest in Porro had been mounting following a strong season with Tottenham, despite the club’s overall struggles which saw them finish 17th in the Premier League for the second consecutive season. Real Madrid had previously identified the 26-year-old as a potential target, but pursued Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan instead. Subsequently, Manchester City made contact with Porro’s agents, reportedly considering a bid in the region of £60 million for a player who previously spent three years at the Etihad Stadium without making a senior appearance.
However, manager Roberto De Zerbi appears to have played a key role in convincing Porro to remain at Tottenham. De Zerbi has prioritized retaining key players as he begins to reshape the squad, with experienced duo Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario expected to depart and Yves Bissouma having already been released. There remain doubts over the futures of other players including Richarlison, Pape Sarr, Radu Dragusin and Mathys Tel.
Porro has become a valuable asset for Tottenham since joining the club, scoring 13 goals and providing 26 assists in 152 appearances. He was consistently praised by supporters for his performances throughout a difficult season for the club. Official confirmation of the new contract is expected from Tottenham on Monday. The new deal signifies a significant win for De Zerbi as he aims to build a competitive squad for the future.
