FC Porto have announced the permanent signing of defender Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal, the Portuguese club confirmed on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Polish international joins Porto after a successful loan spell, with the deal completed for a fee of €17 million plus €5 million in potential add-ons.
Kiwior arrived at Arsenal in January 2023 from Spezia, making 68 appearances in two and a half years under Mikel Arteta. While a squad player for the Gunners, he found more consistent playing time with Porto this past season, featuring in 38 matches across all competitions. The move provides Kiwior with the opportunity to establish himself as a key player in a competitive league.
The transfer allows Arsenal to recoup a significant fee for a player who was not a regular starter, and the funds could be reinvested in other areas of the squad. Porto, meanwhile, have secured a player who has already proven his quality and adaptability during his loan period, strengthening their defensive options as they look to continue their domestic success. The club has secured Kiwior’s services through to 2030, indicating a long-term commitment to the player.
Arsenal qualified for the Champions League final after defeating Atlético Madrid 1-0 in the second leg of their semi-final tie, but the victory was tempered by the departure of Kiwior. This move represents a positive outcome for all parties involved, providing Kiwior with a clear pathway for development and allowing both clubs to strengthen their respective positions.
