Paris Saint-Germain have agreed to loan goalkeeper Renato Marin to Portuguese Primeira Liga side CD Nacional for the 2024-2025 season, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The Italo-Brazilian shot-stopper will join the team based in Funchal, Madeira, seeking regular first-team football. The move comes after Marin found his opportunities limited at the Parc des Princes.
Marin arrived at PSG from AS Roma in the summer of 2023, but has largely served as backup to Matveï Safonov and Lucas Chevalier. The 19-year-old, who will turn 20 on July 10th, made only three appearances for the French champions this past season. These included a 4-0 Coupe de France victory over Fontenay-le-Comte, and Ligue 1 matches against Lorient (2-2) and Brest (1-0).
Despite limited playing time, Marin has already added several major honours to his burgeoning career. He was part of the PSG squad that won the Super Cup, the Intercontinental Cup, the French Champions Trophy, Ligue 1, and the Champions League. His arrival in Paris was seen as a long-term investment, with the club believing in his potential to develop into a top-level goalkeeper.
CD Nacional will provide Marin with the platform to gain valuable experience and minutes in a competitive league. The loan is intended to accelerate his development and prepare him for a potential future role at PSG. The move allows PSG to assess Marin’s progress without hindering their immediate first-team options, while offering the young keeper a chance to prove himself at a senior level. This loan could prove crucial in determining Marin’s long-term future with the Parisian club.
No financial details of the loan deal were disclosed by either club. It is understood that PSG will cover a portion of Marin’s wages during his time in Portugal.
