Christian Pulisic is preparing for the upcoming international break with the United States national team, facing increased scrutiny following a disappointing end to the season with AC Milan. The forward’s form dipped significantly in the latter half of the Serie A campaign, contributing to a challenging period for both the player and the club.
Pulisic addressed his recent struggles while with the USMNT, stating he isn’t focused on assigning blame or identifying specific issues. “I don’t try to dwell on the past, or figure out what the problems were,” Pulisic said. “There were moments where I could have done a lot better, and it was a difficult period for our team. It was a difficult period for me, and that’s what it comes down to. Obviously, I’m disappointed, but now I need to look forward to what’s in front of me.”
The 25-year-old acknowledged his diminished impact on the pitch during the latter stages of the season, but maintained that his professional approach has remained consistent. “I haven’t changed the way I train, the way I prepare, or the way I continue to push forward and try to improve every day,” he explained. “I still do that every day, and that’s why I can hold my head high.”
Pulisic joined Milan from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of around €20 million, seeking regular first-team football after limited opportunities in London. He initially impressed, contributing goals and assists, but his influence waned as the season progressed, raising questions about his future at the San Siro. The club’s recent struggles, compounded by the potential departures of key players like Rafael Leão and Luka Modrić, have further intensified the focus on Pulisic’s situation.
Leão has publicly stated his desire to play in another league, while Modrić’s contract is nearing its expiration, creating uncertainty within the Milan squad. According to reports from Milan-based news outlets, the club is evaluating several options as they plan for the next transfer window, and Pulisic’s position is subject to review. His ability to rediscover his early-season form will likely be a key factor in determining his long-term prospects with the Rossoneri. A successful showing at the international level could potentially boost his confidence and reaffirm his value to the team.
