Manchester United’s proposed permanent transfer of Marcus Rashford to Barcelona has stalled, with the Spanish club unwilling to meet United’s valuation or include midfielder Marc Bernal as part of any deal, according to a report in Mundo Deportivo. Rashford spent last season on loan at Camp Nou and a permanent move had been widely anticipated.
Negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing since the conclusion of the loan period, but an agreement on a transfer fee has proved elusive. United are reportedly open to revisiting talks if Barcelona were to offer Bernal, but the player himself is not keen on a move to Old Trafford, further complicating matters.
Meanwhile, United are facing a deadline in their pursuit of Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller. BILD reports that a release clause in Stiller’s contract, valued at €36.5 million, expires on Wednesday, July 15th. United scouts have frequently monitored Stiller throughout the past season and manager Michel Carrick is keen to add further midfield depth, despite already securing the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer.
The pursuit of Stiller comes after the collapse of a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson, which was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. Atalanta director Cristiano Giuntoli stated the club was “stunned” by United’s decision to withdraw from the transfer, and have since offered Ederson a new contract to retain his services. Romano confirmed that United will not revisit a move for Ederson later in the transfer window.
United have also received a financial boost from the recent transfer of Mason Greenwood to Fenerbahce. A sell-on clause included in his loan move to Marseille in 2024 entitled United to a percentage of any subsequent transfer fee. Greenwood’s €39 million move to the Turkish side has yielded a €12 million bonus for the club.
The situation with Rashford leaves United with a decision to make regarding the England international’s future, while the expiring release clause in Stiller’s contract adds urgency to their midfield recruitment efforts.
