Bologna have initiated discussions with Rangers regarding the potential transfer of midfielder Nico Raskin, with the 25-year-old Belgian international reportedly seeking a move to a top-five European league. Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that Bologna have made contact to ascertain the conditions of a deal for Raskin, who is currently with the Belgium national team.
Rangers, now under the management of Derek McInnes, are understood to be open to selling Raskin for the right offer, valuing the player in the region of £20million. Raskin arrived at Ibrox from Standard Liege in 2023 for approximately £1.5million plus bonuses and has since become a key figure, making 50 appearances across all competitions this past season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists.
Adding intrigue to the situation is Rangers’ reported interest in Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson. The 26-year-old Scottish international is the captain of the Serie A side and has been a standout performer since joining from Aberdeen in 2022. McInnes, who previously managed Ferguson at Aberdeen, is believed to be keen on a reunion, viewing him as an ideal leadership figure and midfield presence.
While Ferguson is reportedly open to a return to his boyhood club, sources indicate that Bologna currently have no desire to sell their captain, and any pursuit from Rangers would likely be conducted as a separate transaction. No formal negotiations regarding Ferguson have taken place at this stage. Modern transfer practices generally favour independent deals, allowing clubs greater flexibility in managing financial regulations.
It remains to be seen whether Bologna will meet Rangers’ valuation for Raskin, or if meaningful discussions regarding Ferguson can be initiated following the conclusion of the World Cup. A sale of Raskin would provide funds for McInnes to rebuild the Rangers squad, while Bologna aim to strengthen their midfield ahead of the upcoming Serie A season. Raskin is widely expected to be sold this summer, while a move for Ferguson remains speculative at this time.
