Real Madrid have initiated discussions with Enzo Fernandez regarding a potential transfer from Chelsea, according to transfer reporter Ben Jacobs. The move is being driven by new manager Jose Mourinho, who has identified central midfield as an area requiring reinforcement. While Chelsea have not yet received a formal offer, an approach is considered likely once personal terms can be agreed upon.
Madrid reportedly value Fernandez highly and are aware the 25-year-old is keen on a move to the Spanish capital. He previously expressed a desire to live in Madrid, comparing the city favorably to his hometown of Buenos Aires, even receiving an internal ban at Chelsea for those comments in April. However, Chelsea are expected to demand a substantial fee, reportedly around £120 million, which could prove a significant obstacle to the transfer.
This pursuit of Fernandez comes after a busy early period for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who was recently re-elected and has already overseen the return of Jose Mourinho. Perez has bolstered the squad with free transfers for Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva, as well as securing Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for a fee of €60 million (£52m).
Meanwhile, the future of Vinicius Junior at the Bernabeu is increasingly uncertain. Radio Marca journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon reports that contract renewal talks have stalled, with Perez unwilling to meet the player’s wage demands. Madrid reportedly ‘suspect’ a team will emerge this summer to offer Vinicius an exit, and the player himself would prefer a sale to leaving on a free transfer when his contract expires in June 2027. Manchester City have previously been linked as potential suitors. The situation could lead to a significant exodus from Stamford Bridge this summer, potentially totaling £241 million, with Fernandez potentially being a key part of that.
