Real Madrid are set to trigger the buy-back clause in Nico Paz’s contract with Como, bringing the attacking midfielder back to the Estadio Bernabeu, according to reports from Spanish media outlets AS and Cadena SER. The club has until May 30th to exercise the option, which is valued at €9 million (£7.8m, $10.5m).
Paz initially joined Como with Real Madrid retaining a buy-back option for the summer of 2026. Fabrizio Romano reported in November 2025 that the player had already agreed to a return to Madrid, though Como were hoping to retain his services until then. The situation has evolved with Madrid now prepared to act immediately.
Como manager Cesc Fabregas has consistently praised Paz, describing him as a “very complete player” capable of fulfilling multiple roles within the team. The 21-year-old has been instrumental in Como’s recent success, helping them secure a Champions League spot for the 2026/27 season.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the final decision rests with Real Madrid, who are keen to integrate Paz into the first-team squad. However, Como are attempting to persuade Madrid to allow Paz to remain with the club for another season, offering Champions League football as an incentive. Paz himself is reportedly seeking clarity on his potential role under incoming manager Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho’s arrival at Real Madrid is confirmed, though an official announcement is pending the outcome of the club’s presidential elections. Current president Florentino Perez is facing a challenge from Enrique Riquelme. The re-signing of Paz could be one of Mourinho’s first moves as he reshapes the squad. This move signifies Madrid’s commitment to bringing through young talent and strengthens their midfield options for the future.
