Stade Rennais have completed the signing of American right-back Bryan Reynolds from KVC Westerlo on a permanent deal. The 25-year-old has signed a contract with the French club that runs until 2030, the club confirmed.
Reynolds joins Rennes after three seasons with Westerlo in Belgium, where he established himself as a regular starter. Prior to his time in Belgium, the defender had a spell with Serie A side AS Roma, joining them in January 2021 before later moving to Westerlo on loan and then permanently. He has earned seven international caps for the United States national team.
The move to Rennes represents a significant step up for Reynolds, offering him the opportunity to compete in Ligue 1 and European football. Rennes will participate in the Europa League this season, a competition Reynolds expressed excitement about joining. He stated, according to the club’s official announcement, that he was eager to accept the challenge presented by the club and the European competition.
Rennes have been active in the transfer window, with Reynolds being the sixth arrival of the summer. They have also brought in Adrien Thomasson, Issa Soumaré, Nicolas Lemaître, Gonçalo Oliveira, and Elezier Mayenda. The acquisition of Reynolds addresses a need for depth and competition at right-back, bolstering their defensive options ahead of the new season. The club is clearly aiming to strengthen its squad to compete on multiple fronts.
Reynolds’ arrival provides Rennes with a dynamic and athletic full-back capable of contributing both defensively and in attack. His experience in European football, albeit primarily in Belgium, will be valuable as he adapts to the demands of Ligue 1. This transfer signals Rennes’ ambition to continue challenging at the top of the French league and make a mark in European competitions.
