Stade Rennais have completed the signing of United States international Bryan Reynolds from Westerlo, the Ligue 1 club confirmed on Thursday. The 25-year-old right-back has signed a contract with Rennes that runs until 2030. Reynolds joins the Breton club on a permanent transfer, bolstering their options at full-back ahead of their Europa League campaign.
Reynolds began his professional career with FC Dallas in Major League Soccer, where he quickly established himself as a promising talent. He moved to Serie A with AS Roma in 2021, but his time in Italy was hampered by limited opportunities and a loan spell back in the MLS with Austin FC. He subsequently found more consistent playing time with Westerlo in the Belgian First Division A, becoming a key player for the club.
According to a statement released by Rennes, Reynolds expressed his enthusiasm for the move, stating he was eager to take on the challenge of playing in Ligue 1 and competing in the Europa League. He described the opportunity as a “new step” in his career. Rennes have been active in the transfer window, adding Reynolds as their sixth signing of the summer.
Prior to Reynolds’ arrival, Rennes had already secured the services of Adrien Thomasson (from Lens on a free transfer), Gonçalo Oliveira (from Benfica), Nicolas Lemaître (from Troyes on a free transfer), Issa Soumaré (from Le Havre on a free transfer), and Eliezer Mayenda (from Southampton). Reynolds will compete with Przemyslaw Frankowski, who joined Rennes last summer, for a starting position at right-back. The addition of Reynolds provides Rennes with further depth and competition in their squad as they aim to challenge for European qualification and make a strong impact in the Europa League.
Reynolds has earned seven caps for the United States national team, scoring one goal. His move to Rennes represents a significant step in his career, offering him the chance to play at a high level in a competitive European league.
