Andrew Robertson has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer after eight years with Liverpool, the club confirmed on June 5, 2026. The 32-year-old Scotland captain departs Anfield having made 378 appearances for the Reds since his arrival in 2017, winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League crown.
Robertson’s move to North London comes after he found his place in the Liverpool starting eleven diminished by the arrival of Milos Kerkez. He was reportedly the subject of interest from Tottenham as early as January, but Liverpool blocked any potential move at that time. According to ESPN, Juventus made a late attempt to sign the left-back, but were ultimately unsuccessful.
The experienced defender has signed a contract with Tottenham, though the length of the deal has not been disclosed. Robertson’s arrival is seen as a significant coup for Spurs, who narrowly avoided relegation last season and are seeking to rebuild under manager Roberto De Zerbi. De Zerbi lauded Robertson’s qualities in the official club statement, stating he has admired the player for several years and believes he will bring exceptional technical ability, experience, leadership, and a remarkable mentality to the team.
Robertson’s peak years at Liverpool saw him become one of the Premier League’s most consistent and dynamic full-backs. He was a key component of Jürgen Klopp’s successful side, providing both defensive solidity and attacking impetus. However, injuries and the emergence of Kerkez led to a reduced role in recent seasons, prompting his decision to seek a new challenge. Tottenham’s capture of Robertson represents a statement of intent as they aim to climb away from the lower reaches of the Premier League table, while Liverpool continue to compete at the top end of the division.
