Roma are progressing in their pursuit of Nicolò Tresoldi, the Italian-German forward currently at Club Brugge, with the player reportedly keen on a move to the Stadio Olimpico. According to reports in Italy, the club and player have been in discussions for months, and now believe the time is right to secure his signature as a backup to Donyell Malen and a potential future leading striker.
The 23-year-old has impressed in recent seasons, initially with Hannover in the German second tier before continuing his development with Brugge. He has totalled 23 goals in 58 appearances for the Belgian side, including a notable record in the Champions League with three goals in ten games against prominent clubs such as Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Arsenal, and Atlético Madrid. Roma are keen to move quickly to avoid competition, particularly from Atlético, who are also monitoring the player.
Tresoldi was born in Cagliari, Italy, and has expressed a desire to return to his country of birth after spells in Germany and Belgium. He has already spoken with Roma’s Niccolò Pisilli, whom he knows from their time together in youth football, indicating his enthusiasm for the move. Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is reportedly a strong advocate for the transfer, believing Tresoldi’s attributes would be well-suited to his tactical approach.
The primary obstacle to the deal remains Brugge’s valuation of the player, currently set at €30 million. Roma are hoping to negotiate this fee down, potentially exploring a loan with an option to buy. Gasperini is eager to integrate Tresoldi into the squad as quickly as possible, and the club are keen to avoid waiting for the potential departure of Artem Dovbyk to free up funds or a space in the squad. Tresoldi, the son of former Atalanta defender Emanuele Tresoldi, is considered a modern forward with pace, good close control, and a strong goalscoring instinct, characteristics that appeal to Gasperini.
