Roma are in advanced negotiations to sign Mason Greenwood from Olympique Marseille, though a deal hinges on bridging a valuation gap between the two clubs, according to reports in Italy. The Serie A side have reportedly offered €45 million, including bonuses, for the England international, but Marseille are holding out for €50 million.
Greenwood has reportedly given his approval to a move to the Stadio Olimpico, drawn by the project presented by Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini. The two have held conversations, with Gasperini inquiring about Greenwood’s readiness to compete, and receiving a positive response from the player. The appeal of Champions League football is also a significant factor in Greenwood’s preference for Roma over other interested parties.
Greenwood joined Marseille last summer after his loan spell with Getafe, scoring eight goals in 36 appearances across all competitions. Prior to his departure from Manchester United in 2022, the forward had established himself as a key player, contributing 31 goals in 129 games. His career was halted by off-field issues, which led to the termination of his contract with the Premier League club.
The 22-year-old has already agreed to personal terms with Roma, with a proposed contract worth approximately €4.5 million per season for five years. Gasperini has reportedly assured Greenwood he will be deployed in a familiar role on the right side of a 3-4-2-1 formation. Roma are also pursuing other targets, including Diego Moreira of Strasbourg, but securing Greenwood remains a priority. A successful transfer would bolster Roma's attacking options ahead of the new Serie A season and their return to the Champions League.
