Roma are pursuing Nicolò Tresoldi, the forward currently at Bruges, with coach Gian Piero Gasperini reportedly a long-time admirer of the player, according to reports in Italy. The move is contingent on the departure of Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk, who is nearing a transfer to Genoa.
The 21-year-old Tresoldi, of Italian-German descent, is seen as a potential understudy to Roma’s primary forward, Brian Malen. Gasperini believes Tresoldi possesses the qualities to flourish within Roma’s system and unlock his full potential. Bruges currently values Tresoldi at €25 million, but Roma are hoping to secure a loan deal with an option to buy, mirroring the proposed terms of Dovbyk’s move to Genoa.
Tresoldi has rapidly emerged as a promising talent in European football, having previously impressed in the German second tier with Hannover. He continued his development at Bruges, scoring 23 goals in 58 appearances, including three goals in ten Champions League matches against notable opponents such as Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Arsenal, and Atletico Madrid. The player is the son of former Atalanta defender Emanuele Tresoldi, and previously pursued a career in tennis.
Roma’s interest in Tresoldi reportedly outweighs other potential options for the backup striker role, including Andrea Pinamonti of Sassuolo and Matthis Abline of Nantes. The club is also actively pursuing other targets, including Mason Greenwood from Olympique de Marseille, for whom they are preparing a €45 million offer, and Diego Moreira from Strasbourg. Roma are aiming to finalize several contract renewals, including those of Paulo Dybala, Celik, and Lorenzo Pellegrini, alongside bolstering the squad with new signings before the start of the season. The potential arrival of Tresoldi would further strengthen Roma’s attacking options as they prepare for a campaign including Champions League football.
