Alessio Romagnoli is set to join Al Sadd after a transfer that was initially blocked in January, according to multiple reports from Italian media including Sky Sports. The defender will move to the Qatari club on a permanent deal for a fee of €3 million.
Romagnoli arrived at Lazio in the summer of 2022 and made 137 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring seven goals. He had previously agreed to terms with Al Sadd during the winter transfer window, but Lazio prevented the move at the time. Despite efforts from incoming Lazio manager Gennaro Gattuso to retain him, Romagnoli has decided to pursue a move to Qatar.
Al Sadd recently secured the Qatari league title under the management of Roberto Mancini. However, Mancini is now being considered as a potential replacement for Gattuso as the head coach of the Italian national team, alongside Antonio Conte. Mancini previously led Italy to victory at the European Championship in 2021.
Romagnoli will sign a three-year contract with Al Sadd, extending to June 30, 2029, with an option for an additional season. The move brings an end to his spell in Italy and represents a new chapter in his career, offering him the opportunity to play in the Qatar Stars League. This transfer allows Lazio to recoup a fee for a player who was not central to their plans, while Romagnoli secures a lucrative contract with a recently successful club.
