Ruben Amorim has been appointed as the new manager of AC Milan, replacing Massimiliano Allegri, who is set to join Napoli. The move marks Amorim’s first experience managing in Serie A, according to reports from Italian media outlets.
Amorim is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Rossoneri, which includes an option for a third season. The Portuguese coach will earn a net salary of €3.5 million per year. His arrival in Italy is anticipated within the next 24 hours, with the agreement expected to be finalized in Milan tomorrow.
Amorim gained prominence during his tenure at Sporting Lisbon, where he built a competitive squad, ending a nearly two-decade wait for the Portuguese league title and achieving success in European competitions. His tactical organization, intensity, and focus on developing young players earned him international recognition, leading to an opportunity with Manchester United in 2024.
However, his time at Old Trafford was short-lived, culminating in his dismissal in January. Despite the setback in England, Amorim now has the chance to rebuild his managerial career in Italy, becoming the latest Portuguese coach to take charge of Milan, following previous appointments of Fonseca and Conceicao.
Prior to his move to Manchester United, Amorim was widely considered one of Europe’s most promising young managers. At Sporting, he instilled a clear playing style and oversaw a period of sustained success, revitalizing the club's fortunes. The difficulties he faced at United, a club struggling with internal issues, ultimately led to his departure, but the opportunity at Milan presents a fresh start.
This appointment signals Milan’s intent to adopt a proactive and modern approach under Amorim, potentially revitalizing their squad and challenging for domestic and European honors. The move also allows Allegri to take the reins at Napoli, marking a significant shift for both clubs.
