Antonio Rüdiger is in advanced negotiations with Real Madrid over a contract extension, according to Sky Germany. The centre-back’s current deal is set to expire this summer, but a full agreement on new terms is expected imminently, with final details currently under review.
Rüdiger joined Real Madrid in 2022 following the expiration of his contract at Chelsea, making a free transfer to the Spanish capital. The move followed a successful five-year spell with the Blues, where he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League, becoming a key figure in Thomas Tuchel’s side. He initially struggled to break into the starting eleven at Stamford Bridge under previous managers but established himself as a consistent performer.
Since arriving at the Santiago Bernabéu, Rüdiger has become a regular fixture in the Real Madrid defence, making 182 appearances for the club across all competitions. He has formed a strong partnership with fellow centre-backs, contributing to Real Madrid’s continued success in both La Liga and the Champions League. He won La Liga in the 2023-24 season.
The 31-year-old has also been a mainstay in the German national team, earning 82 caps since making his debut in 2014. He was part of the Germany squad at the 2014, 2018, and 2022 World Cups, as well as the 2016 and 2020 European Championships. He travelled with the squad ahead of the 2024 Euros, where these contract talks are progressing.
Extending Rüdiger’s contract would provide Real Madrid with further stability at the back and secure the services of a proven performer at the highest level. The extension will also reflect his importance to Carlo Ancelotti’s plans, solidifying the defensive line for the foreseeable future and potentially allowing the club to focus on strengthening other areas of the squad.
