Former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is weighing his options with a move to Chelsea now considered his ‘first choice’ should he remain in the Premier League, according to Egyptian journalist Ahmed Darwish via Al-Horia. The 34-year-old departed Anfield at the end of last season, bringing an end to a nine-year spell where he won eight major honours and scored 257 goals in 442 appearances for the Reds.
Salah’s exit followed a reported falling out with former Liverpool manager Arne Slot, but he has yet to finalize his next destination. While a move to Saudi Arabia was previously considered likely, reports suggest the Egyptian international is keen to continue playing at the highest level. TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey previously detailed the substantial financial package and ambassadorial role offered by Saudi clubs, recognizing Salah’s status as a prominent figure in the Muslim world.
Despite expressing his affection for Liverpool and vowing to ‘Never Walk Alone’ in a farewell message, Salah is now reportedly open to a move to Chelsea, a decision that would likely be met with dismay by Liverpool supporters. Beyond Chelsea, Salah has received ‘three strong offers’ from Turkish Super Lig clubs – Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Galatasaray – and continues to attract interest from Saudi Arabian sides, though their financial offers are currently less competitive than others on the table.
However, Bailey maintains that Salah’s ultimate destination will likely be either Saudi Arabia or Major League Soccer. He highlights the importance of geography in Salah’s decision-making, with the player favouring clubs in western Saudi Arabia due to their proximity to Egypt. Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli, both based in Jeddah, are viewed as particularly attractive options, while Neom Sports Club in Tabuk offers an even closer route home. The Saudi Pro League reportedly views Salah as a key figure to elevate the league’s global profile, and a deal in principle is already in place, though the specific club remains undecided.
This development presents Chelsea with an opportunity to bolster their attacking options with a proven goalscorer, while Salah would remain in the Premier League, continuing to compete at the highest level. The potential move could significantly impact both clubs and the broader transfer market.
