Mohamed Salah has expressed a desire to join Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas following his departure from Liverpool, according to reports emerging from Turkey. The 34-year-old became a free agent at the end of June after his contract with the Anfield club expired, leading to speculation about his next destination.
While previously linked with a return to the Premier League with Chelsea, and heavily touted for a move to Saudi Arabia, Salah now appears to be considering options outside of Europe’s traditional top leagues. Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu claims that Salah “wants” to play for Besiktas this summer, suggesting that negotiations are likely to progress rapidly.
Besiktas have reportedly been advised to pursue a contract agreement with the Egyptian forward, but his salary demands of €15 million annually could present a significant hurdle in completing the transfer. Other clubs, including Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Inter Miami, have also been mentioned as potential suitors in recent weeks.
However, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, has indicated that a deal is not yet finalized, but hinted at a swift resolution. In a post on X, Issa stated, “We still do not know where Mohamed will play next season but we may know very soon.” He further clarified their approach, adding, “It is not our style to have discussions with clubs that Mohamed wouldn’t want to play for, just for the sake of noise.”
Salah enjoyed a highly successful nine-year spell with Liverpool, becoming a club icon and winning numerous trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League. However, his form saw a noticeable decline in the 2025-26 season, and a move to a less physically demanding league appears increasingly probable. A transfer to Besiktas would allow him to continue playing at a high level while potentially reducing the strain on his aging body. This move could signal a shift away from Europe’s elite competitions for the forward, as he enters the twilight of his career.
