Jorge Sampaoli is set to become the new manager of Argentine club Club Atlético Talleres de Córdoba, according to L’Équipe. The appointment will see Sampaoli return to Argentina for the first time in his club management career, succeeding Carlos Tévez who held the position on an interim basis.
The 66-year-old Sampaoli has managed 15 different clubs since beginning his managerial career in 2002, and this move marks his first experience coaching in his home country. While he previously managed the Argentina national team, this will be his debut in the Argentine club system after two decades spent coaching across South America, including spells in Chile, Brazil, and Peru.
Sampaoli most recently managed Atlético Mineiro in Brazil, departing in February of this year. He is known for his intense, high-pressing tactical approach, and previously managed Sevilla, Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais in Europe. He led Marseille to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2021-22 season.
Club Atlético Talleres finished as runners-up in the Argentine Primera División last season, losing out to River Plate. The club will be hoping Sampaoli can bring a winning mentality and tactical innovation to help them secure their first league title since 1967. This appointment represents a significant move for both Sampaoli, finally returning to manage in Argentina, and Talleres, who will gain a highly experienced manager.
