Tottenham Hotspur have received a boost in their pursuit of Manchester City winger Savinho, with reports indicating the Brazilian ‘wants’ to move to north London this summer. Football Insider claim that the 22-year-old is ‘keen on the idea’ of joining Spurs, where he believes he would be given a more prominent role than he currently receives at the Etihad Stadium.
Savinho has been a long-term target for Tottenham, with previous attempts to secure his signature proving unsuccessful. However, the departure of Pep Guardiola from Manchester City is believed to have altered the landscape, creating a ‘crucial block’ to his exit and potentially opening the door for a deal. City’s sporting director, Hugo Viana, has reportedly indicated that the club are open to Savinho’s departure as part of a wider reshaping of the squad.
Savinho’s first-team opportunities at Manchester City have been limited, despite his potential. He has featured sporadically under Guardiola, and a move to Tottenham, where he would likely work under Roberto De Zerbi, is seen as an opportunity to establish himself as a key player. De Zerbi’s arrival at Tottenham earlier this year has already begun to revitalise the squad, and the prospect of playing under the Italian coach is said to ‘strongly appeal’ to Savinho.
Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham recently described the club’s recent season as “unacceptable” and “embarrassing,” acknowledging the need for a significant reset of the club’s football operations. Venkatesham emphasized the need for a “fundamental rebaselining” to bring Tottenham back to the standards expected of them, a process he admits will take time. Securing a player like Savinho would represent a step in the right direction as the club looks to rebuild. Tottenham are also reportedly monitoring Roma forward Paulo Dybala as another potential summer addition.
