Schalke 04 have offered Edin Džeko a contract extension until 2027, according to a report in Sport Bild. The proposed deal would see the 40-year-old striker’s stay with the newly promoted Bundesliga side continue for another season beyond his initial short-term agreement.
Having played a key role in Schalke’s promotion campaign, Džeko has become a valuable asset for the club, scoring six goals in 11 appearances. The offer from Schalke reportedly includes a significant increase in salary, with the club prepared to double his current earnings to approximately €1.5 million per year. This demonstrates the club’s clear desire to retain his services and experience.
Džeko joined Schalke 04 in January, bringing a wealth of experience to the team. Prior to his move to Germany, the Bosnian international enjoyed a distinguished career with clubs including Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Roma, and Inter Milan. He won the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2012 and Serie A with Inter Milan in 2021, establishing himself as a consistent goalscorer at the highest level.
Despite the attractive offer, Džeko is reportedly keen to delay making a decision on his future until after representing Bosnia and Herzegovina at the upcoming World Cup. Schalke 04 sporting director Frank Baumann recently expressed optimism regarding Džeko’s potential continued involvement with the club. “In my view, the chances are fundamentally good,” Baumann said, adding that Džeko has indicated he feels physically capable of continuing his career and that Schalke are eager to benefit from his experience both on and off the pitch.
The extension of Džeko’s contract would provide Schalke with a proven goalscorer and experienced leader as they navigate their return to the Bundesliga. His presence could be crucial in establishing the club as a stable force in the German top flight, and potentially mentoring younger players within the squad.
