Sébastien Migné has been officially appointed as the new manager of the Gabon national team, just hours after leaving his position with Haiti. The Gabonese Football Federation announced the appointment on Tuesday, praising Migné’s extensive knowledge of African football.
The length of the contract signed by the French technician has not been disclosed by the federation. Gabon has not qualified for a FIFA World Cup to date, and Migné is viewed as a potential figure to change that, having recently qualified Haiti for the 2026 edition – their first appearance in 52 years.
Migné, 53, had overseen a historic qualifying campaign with Haiti, ending a long wait for the Grenadiers to return to the global stage. Prior to this role, he was linked with potential managerial positions in Kenya and Laos, though those moves did not materialize.
The appointment comes at a time when the Gabon national team has been experiencing a decline in form, and the federation will be hoping Migné can revitalize the squad. The team had recently had its suspension lifted, allowing for international competition to resume. This appointment signals a clear intent to rebuild and compete on the continental stage, with the ultimate goal of reaching a first-ever World Cup.
