Marcos Senesi has completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur following his departure from Bournemouth, the club confirmed on Friday. The Argentinian defender joins the Spurs squad ahead of the 2024/25 season, linking up with new manager Roberto De Zerbi. Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed, and the length of Senesi’s contract was also not revealed by either club.
Senesi’s move to North London comes after a period of uncertainty following Bournemouth’s end-of-season restructuring. The 27-year-old centre-back initially joined Bournemouth in 2022 from Feyenoord, making 29 Premier League appearances for the Cherries. Prior to his time in England, Senesi developed his career in Argentina with San Lorenzo, before moving to the Netherlands with Feyenoord where he established himself as a key player.
Speaking after completing his transfer, Senesi expressed his excitement about joining Tottenham. “It’s a really special feeling to be a Tottenham player,” he said. “The club immediately showed they believed in me and I can’t wait to experience this journey. I will give my all to make the fans proud and to bring the club back to where it deserves to be. I want to win trophies with Tottenham and I will do everything possible to achieve that.”
Roberto De Zerbi also welcomed the arrival of Senesi, highlighting the qualities he believes the defender will bring to the team. “The experience, technical quality and grit of Marcos will strengthen us in defence, as well as giving us tactical flexibility,” De Zerbi stated. “He is comfortable in a team that favours possession, reads the game very well and has the right personality to excel in a competitive environment. I also greatly appreciate his mentality and his desire to constantly improve; I look forward to working with him and seeing the great contribution he can make to the team.”
Senesi’s arrival provides Tottenham with added depth in central defence, an area they have sought to reinforce during the transfer window. He was previously a target for several Italian clubs, including Roma and Juventus, with the latter reportedly holding talks with his representatives, but ultimately a move to Tottenham materialised. The signing aims to bolster Tottenham’s defensive options as they prepare to compete for European qualification next season.
