Serie B Easter Round Sees Venezia Extend Lead as Promotion Race Heats Up
Venezia have moved five points clear at the top of the Serie B table after a commanding 3-1 victory over Juve Stabia on Easter Monday. The win, secured via an own goal from Giorgini and a double from striker Simone Adorante, marks Venezia's fifth consecutive home victory and solidifies their position as the automatic promotion favourites with 71 points.
The result puts significant pressure on the chasing pack. Monza, in third place, could only manage a 1-1 draw away at Catanzaro, a point salvaged by a Matteo Pessina penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time. The match was a tense affair featuring three red cards, with Monza finishing with nine men after dismissals for Patrick Cutrone and Keita Balde. Despite the dropped points, Monza remain just two points behind second-placed Frosinone, who did not play in this round.
Further down the table, the battle for playoff positions and survival intensified. Bari reignited their hopes with a 3-1 win over Modena, moving within touching distance of the top eight. Meanwhile, Pescara produced a crucial 3-1 away win at bottom-side Reggiana, with goals from Jens Odgaard, Roberto Insigne, and Edoardo Meazzi lifting them out of the relegation zone and to within two points of direct safety.
At the other end of the table, the situation grew more dire for Spezia. Despite the return of manager Luca D'Angelo to the dugout, they fell to a 3-1 defeat against Carrarese, finishing the match with only eight men after three late red cards. Spezia remain joint-last alongside Reggiana, who have won just twice in 2026. Sampdoria, however, continued their climb away from danger with a 1-0 win over Empoli, a result that sees them move a point above their opponents and three clear of the playout places.
The Serie B season now enters its final decisive phase, with Venezia holding a commanding position at the summit. The focus shifts to whether Monza and Frosinone can keep pace, and how the congested mid-table and relegation battles will resolve in the coming weeks. The intensity of the Easter Monday fixtures, marked by multiple red cards and late drama, underscores the high stakes for every club involved.
