Silas Katompa Mvumpa has signed a contract extension with 1.FSV Mainz 05, committing his future to the Bundesliga club until 2027, according to Sky Germany. The deal, finalized on Tuesday afternoon, includes an option for a further year's extension, providing Mainz with potential long-term security with the DR Congo international.
The winger initially joined Mainz in the winter transfer window and has made eight Bundesliga appearances for the club, scoring one goal despite being hampered by a significant injury. Katompa Mvumpa is currently recovering from a broken tibia and fibula sustained earlier this season, which has limited his playing time since arriving at the MEWA ARENA.
Reports from the Allgemeine Zeitung first indicated Katompa Mvumpa’s likely extension, and those suggestions were confirmed by the club’s decision to offer a new deal. The pay-Tav, a local publication, reported at the end of April that Mainz were actively pursuing a contract extension with the 27-year-old, highlighting their satisfaction with his impact despite his injury.
Prior to his move to Mainz, Katompa Mvumpa had spent the majority of his professional career in Germany, notably with VfB Stuttgart, where he established himself as a consistent performer in the Bundesliga. He became known for his pace and direct running style, contributing both goals and assists during his time at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. His injury record, however, has been a recurring concern throughout his career.
The contract extension suggests Mainz 05 see Katompa Mvumpa as a valuable asset for the future, even with his current injury. His ability to stretch defenses and create scoring opportunities will be crucial for Mainz as they look to build upon their Bundesliga performance next season, and the option to extend further demonstrates the club’s confidence in his potential recovery and continued contribution.
