Bernardo Silva is prioritizing a move to Atletico Madrid over potential offers from Juventus, AC Milan, and Barcelona, according to Marca. The 31-year-old Manchester City midfielder will be a free agent this summer, ending a nine-year spell at the Etihad Stadium. Silva has informed his representatives that he favours a transfer to the Metropolitano, creating ‘moderate optimism’ within Atletico that they can secure his signature.
Silva had previously been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, with agent Jorge Mendes maintaining significant connections at the club, but the Blaugrana have reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign him. This development opened the door for other clubs to pursue the Portuguese international, with Juventus emerging as a leading contender before Atletico’s offer gained prominence. Atletico’s Sporting Director, Mateu Alemany, is currently negotiating a two-year contract with Silva, including a one-year extension option based on performance objectives.
The potential arrival of Silva has sparked discussion regarding a possible replacement for Antoine Griezmann, who is set to depart Atletico this summer. While Silva is primarily a midfielder, he possesses the technical ability to operate in an attacking midfield role, though his playing style differs from Griezmann’s, particularly in terms of making runs in behind the defence. This season, Silva has contributed three goals and five assists in 52 appearances for Manchester City.
Silva joined Manchester City in 2017 from Monaco and has been a key component of their success under Pep Guardiola, winning multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups, and the Champions League. His versatility and technical quality have made him a highly sought-after player across Europe. Atletico Madrid’s interest signals a potential shift in their squad dynamics as they look to rebuild following Griezmann’s departure. Securing Silva on a free transfer would represent a significant coup for the club, bolstering their midfield options and adding a wealth of experience to their squad. This move could position Atletico as strong contenders in both La Liga and European competitions.
