Bernardo Silva strongly indicated his departure from Manchester City following their 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday. The Portuguese midfielder, who secured his twentieth trophy with the club, appeared emotional speaking to the BBC after the match.
“Since I arrived, I’ve won 20 trophies, which is not bad,” Silva said with a smile. “I am very happy. All my journey here, at Manchester City, has been fantastic. It’s special for me, because it’s my last season and we win another trophy. I hope it won’t be the last.”
While Silva did not explicitly confirm his next destination, his comments suggest this was his final appearance at Wembley for Manchester City. He has been a key figure for Pep Guardiola since arriving from Monaco in 2017, demonstrating versatility and consistently high performance in midfield and occasionally at right-back.
City currently trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by two points with two matches remaining. They travel to Bournemouth on Tuesday before hosting Aston Villa next Sunday, offering Silva a chance to add to his trophy haul before a potential exit. The outcome of these matches could also impact the future of manager Pep Guardiola, who has been linked with a possible departure.
Silva was effusive in his praise for Guardiola, stating the manager had fundamentally changed his understanding of the game. “He changed my way of seeing football. I’ve spent 80 percent of my career with him as a coach. Everything I hoped to achieve, I did with him. The relationship we have is very strong.”
The club has not yet confirmed any agreement with another team, and Silva’s future remains officially unconfirmed. However, his emotional post-match interview strongly suggests a farewell is imminent, bringing an end to a highly successful eight-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
