Bernardo Silva has agreed terms with Barcelona following his departure from Manchester City, according to TEAMtalk. The Portugal international has committed to a two-year contract with the Catalan club, worth approximately €8 million per year, with Barcelona holding a one-year extension option.
Barcelona sporting director Deco is credited with playing a key role in securing the deal, overcoming competition from Juventus and Atletico Madrid. Silva became a free agent this summer after a successful spell at Manchester City, attracting interest from clubs across Europe, including those in MLS and the Saudi Pro League. However, the player reportedly prioritized remaining in top-level European football.
While former club Monaco and Portuguese sides Sporting CP, Porto, and Benfica all expressed interest, Silva ultimately preferred a move to Spain. Juventus had initially reached an agreement in principle with Silva’s representatives, and Atletico Madrid also made a push under Diego Simeone, but Barcelona ultimately proved the more attractive destination.
The 31-year-old’s arrival at Camp Nou has received the approval of head coach Hansi Flick, who believes Silva’s experience and versatility will be valuable assets. To facilitate the transfer, Barcelona are reportedly prepared to allow Marc Casado to leave the club, with Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Monaco among the clubs interested in the young midfielder. This move will help create space within the squad and manage the club’s financial constraints.
For Atletico Madrid, missing out on Silva represents a setback in their dealings with Barcelona, as the two clubs are currently negotiating a potential transfer for Julian Alvarez. Barcelona are also reportedly open to selling one of their existing attackers, with Arsenal among the Premier League clubs monitoring the situation. The signing of Silva is expected to strengthen Barcelona’s midfield options and provide tactical flexibility for the upcoming season.
