Giovanni Simeone is seeking to leave Torino less than a year after signing a contract with the club through 2028, with a desire to rejoin Napoli, according to reports in Italy. The Argentinian forward has reportedly expressed his wish to return to the club he previously represented.
Simeone initially joined Torino from Hellas Verona in August 2023 for a reported €17 million. He made 32 appearances across all competitions for the Granata last season, scoring eight goals. While a consistent contributor, his form dipped towards the end of the campaign, raising questions about his long-term commitment to the club.
Napoli previously employed Simeone during the 2016-17 season, where he scored 12 goals in 37 appearances before moving to Genoa. Although his time in Naples was relatively short, he made a positive impression on the club’s supporters and reportedly retains a strong affinity for the city and the team. Napoli are currently seeking attacking reinforcements following a disappointing title defence in the 2023-24 season, finishing tenth in Serie A.
Torino will likely seek a fee recouping a significant portion of the €17 million they paid for Simeone last summer. The club’s sporting director, Riccardo Calvo, will need to balance the financial aspect of any deal with the potential disruption caused by losing a key attacking player during the transfer window. Torino are also reportedly interested in strengthening their attacking options, meaning a sale could free up funds for alternative targets.
Should Simeone complete a move back to Napoli, it would provide coach Antonio Conte with another attacking option as he looks to rebuild the team and challenge for Champions League qualification. The transfer could also signal a shift in Torino’s transfer strategy, potentially focusing on younger, more long-term attacking prospects.
