The Norwegian forward was a target for Juventus throughout the summer transfer window, but the Italian club have shifted their focus to Randal Kolo Muani, effectively ending their pursuit of Sorloth.
Juventus had reportedly reached an economic agreement with Sorloth prior to the World Cup, but were unable to negotiate a deal with Atletico Madrid, who were holding firm on a €40 million valuation. Sorloth’s performance at the World Cup, where he failed to score in five appearances playing as a wide forward, is believed to have influenced Juventus’s change of direction.
Diego Simeone, the Atletico Madrid manager, is understood to be a key factor in the club’s decision to retain Sorloth. Simeone views the 30-year-old as a valuable squad member, capable of providing cover and offering a different attacking option from the bench. Sorloth scored 20 goals across all competitions last season, frequently as a substitute, demonstrating his impact despite often not being a regular starter.
The decision to keep Sorloth is also influenced by the departure of Antoine Griezmann to Orlando City and the club’s desire to hold onto Julian Alvarez. With Griezmann’s exit creating a void in the attack, Atletico Madrid are keen to maintain a proven goalscorer in their ranks. The future of Nico Gonzalez, who spent last season on loan at Juventus, remains uncertain following Atletico Madrid’s decision not to exercise their purchase option. Gonzalez is expected to return to Turin, at least initially.
