Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has stated that the core of the current squad will remain in place for the upcoming season, despite acknowledging mistakes in his player selections and hinting at potential reinforcements. The comments came during a press conference ahead of Juventus’ crucial Serie A match against Lecce on May 8, 2026, a game pivotal in their pursuit of a Champions League qualification spot.
Spalletti’s side has stumbled in recent weeks, drawing their last two matches against Milan and Verona, prompting scrutiny of his team selection and tactical approach. He emphasized the need for a change in mentality and a more aggressive approach in their remaining fixtures, particularly the trip to Lecce. He also confirmed Dusan Vlahovic is in contention to start, urging caution against placing undue pressure on the striker.
Addressing concerns about a perceived lack of experience within the Juventus squad, Spalletti agreed with club director Giovanni Marotta’s assessment that experience is vital for success. Currently, only Kalulu, alongside goalkeepers Perin and Pinsoglio, have Serie A titles to their name. The club is reportedly pursuing Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, aged 33, and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, a free agent, to bolster their experience. However, Spalletti stressed that any additions will be incremental, not a complete overhaul.
Spalletti also addressed the situation surrounding forward Arkadiusz Milik, acknowledging he may have made errors in his usage of the player. He praised Milik’s commitment and positive attitude, stating the squad appreciates him, but conceded he believed other players would deliver more significant results. The manager’s comments suggest a potential departure for Milik in the summer transfer window.
Juventus currently sit in a tight race for a Champions League place, and Spalletti believes the team possesses the character and quality to secure qualification. He highlighted the importance of capitalizing on decisive moments and maintaining a high level of focus, particularly in low-scoring matches. Securing a top-four finish would be a significant achievement for Spalletti in his first season at the club, and would likely solidify his position going forward.
