Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is reportedly concerned about the lack of new arrivals ahead of the team’s training camp on July 13th. According to reports in the Italian press, Spalletti is hoping for at least the arrival of Randal Kolo Muani and the completion of a deal to bring Tarik Muharemovic back to the club before the squad reconvenes at Continassa.
Juventus finished sixth in Serie A last season, a disappointing result that prompted changes in the club’s leadership with Giovanni Carnevali arriving as the new CEO and General Manager, replacing Damien Comolli. However, the squad itself remains largely unchanged, a situation that is causing some anxiety for Spalletti, who is due to return to Turin this weekend.
The club has identified a goalkeeper and a centre-forward as priority positions to fill this summer. A deal for Kolo Muani, currently at Paris Saint-Germain, is progressing well, with Spalletti hoping to have the French striker available for the start of training. However, the search for a new goalkeeper has proven more difficult. Spalletti had hoped to reunite with Alisson Becker, but Liverpool are unwilling to allow the Brazilian to leave.
Alternative target Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa is currently competing in the World Cup, and negotiations with the English club have stalled over a valuation. Aston Villa are reportedly demanding €10 million for the 34-year-old, a fee Juventus are hesitant to pay. Other options, such as Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham Hotspur – also a target for Napoli – have not fully convinced Spalletti.
Alongside Kolo Muani, Spalletti is also pushing for the return of Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo. Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, though a final agreement has yet to be reached. Muharemovic would provide much-needed cover at centre-back, specifically a left-footed option. Jeff Ekhator is the only confirmed new arrival so far, representing a promising but unproven addition to the squad. The lack of a proven goalscorer is a particular concern for Spalletti, given the team’s struggles in front of goal last season. The manager is aware that a significant overhaul of the Juventus squad will take time.
