Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to raise £170 million through the sale of five first-team players this summer, according to a report from Football.London. The funds generated will be allocated towards further strengthening Roberto De Zerbi’s squad following a significant overhaul thus far in the transfer window.
Spurs have undergone a substantial shift in transfer strategy, adjusting their wage structure and making significant investments in players like Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke, totaling £237 million. These acquisitions, alongside free transfers for Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka, demonstrate De Zerbi’s influence after joining the club late last season to avoid relegation.
The club has already sanctioned the departures of Yves Bissouma, Alfie Devine, Radu Dragușin on loan with an option to buy, and Alejo Veliz, with Luka Vuskovic’s £50 million move to Brighton nearing completion. Tottenham previously opted against making permanent deals for loanees Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani, paving the way for further player sales.
Cristian Romero, the club captain, is expected to be among those departing, with Atletico Madrid emerging as the frontrunner for his signature. Despite signing a new contract recently, the Argentina international has reportedly been seeking a move, and his departure could net Spurs around £50 million. The arrivals of Senesi and Van Hecke have further contributed to speculation surrounding Romero’s future.
Midfielder Lucas Bergvall is also anticipated to leave, having expressed his desire for more playing time following the signings of Tonali and Fernandes. While De Zerbi is keen to retain the £50 million-rated player, Tottenham may be compelled to grant his wish. Djed Spence, who has struggled to secure a consistent role under De Zerbi, is attracting interest from Everton and could fetch a fee of approximately £25 million.
Striker Richarlison, despite being the club’s top scorer last season, is also expected to be sold due to inconsistency and injury concerns. Tottenham are likely to incur a loss on the Brazilian, who cost £60 million in 2022, with Turkish clubs reportedly submitting offers in the region of £25 million. Finally, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario’s potential exit has encountered some hurdles, with interest from Inter Milan and Juventus, though Juventus are now prioritizing Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.
Combined, these sales could generate £170 million, allowing Tottenham to pursue targets such as Rafael Leao and Bournemouth’s El Junior Kroupi as they continue to reshape their squad.
