Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to make offers for Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke this summer, according to TEAMtalk sources. The moves are being considered as head coach Roberto De Zerbi looks to reshape the squad following his appointment in March.
De Zerbi successfully guided Tottenham to Premier League safety and the club’s hierarchy are now set to back him with significant investment in the transfer market. While deals for Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson are already reportedly agreed, the club is also focusing on players De Zerbi knows well from his time at Brighton.
Spurs’ interest in both Verbruggen and Van Hecke predates De Zerbi’s arrival, with the club having already conducted scouting work on the pair. However, De Zerbi’s admiration for both players has reportedly strengthened Tottenham’s resolve to pursue a double deal. Brighton are not under pressure to sell either player and are expected to demand substantial fees.
Defensive reinforcements are a priority for Tottenham, with captain Cristian Romero potentially being sold while his value remains high. Micky van de Ven’s future is also not entirely secure, with the club open to offers. Even with the arrival of Senesi and the potential return of Luka Vuskovic from loan, further additions at centre-back are planned, making Van Hecke a natural target. The Netherlands international has established himself as a consistent performer in the Premier League.
The goalkeeping position is also set for change, with Guglielmo Vicario expected to return to Italy. While Antonin Kinsky impressed towards the end of the season, De Zerbi is reportedly seeking a new long-term number one, with Verbruggen identified as the ideal candidate. The Brighton stopper has attracted interest from across Europe, but Tottenham remain in contention.
Tottenham are also monitoring the situation of Carlos Baleba at Brighton, with the midfielder potentially becoming a target if his anticipated move to Manchester United falls through. Joao Palhinha, currently on loan from Bayern Munich, remains a midfield option, but Baleba is viewed as a strong alternative. Tottenham believe both Verbruggen and Van Hecke would be receptive to a move to North London despite the club’s absence from the Champions League.
