Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to loan Luka Vuskovic back to Hamburg for next season, despite the 19-year-old centre-back’s impressive campaign in the Bundesliga, according to reports from The Independent. The move comes as Spurs look to bolster their defensive options with the potential arrivals of Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi.
Vuskovic enjoyed a breakout season with Hamburg, earning a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season and scoring six goals – the most of any defender in the league. He joined Tottenham but was immediately loaned to Hamburg to gain first-team experience, and that experience has clearly been valuable, leading to significant interest from other clubs.
Tottenham endured a difficult 2025/26 season, narrowly avoiding relegation and changing managers twice. Despite this instability, the club reportedly remains high on Vuskovic’s potential and are planning to offer him a new contract before sanctioning another loan spell. This suggests they view him as a future first-team player, but not one ready to immediately contribute to a rebuilding project.
The potential departures of Cristian Romero are also influencing the club’s transfer strategy, with van Hecke and Senesi identified as potential replacements. While Vuskovic has seemingly demonstrated he could compete for a place, Tottenham appear keen to continue his development in a competitive environment where he is guaranteed regular playing time. The club believes another season of consistent football will further prepare him for the Premier League.
Barcelona have also reportedly expressed interest in Vuskovic, with fresh contact made with his representatives, but Tottenham’s intention to offer a new contract indicates their commitment to the player. The loan extension to Hamburg allows Vuskovic to continue his development without the immediate pressure of performing for a club still navigating a period of transition.
