Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion are engaged in ongoing negotiations regarding two potential transfers, involving defenders Luka Vuskovic and Jan Paul van Hecke, according to TEAMtalk. Discussions are primarily centered around the valuation of Vuskovic, with Brighton interested in a move for the Croatian centre-back, and the transfer of Van Hecke to North London.
Sources indicate growing confidence that an agreement for Van Hecke will be reached, with the player having already informed Brighton of his desire to reunite with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, who previously coached him on the south coast. Personal terms between Van Hecke and Tottenham are reportedly agreed in principle, though the transfer fee remains a sticking point, with Brighton seeking a higher sum than Tottenham’s current offer.
Alongside Van Hecke’s potential arrival, Tottenham are also in talks concerning Luka Vuskovic. The 17-year-old is reportedly open to a move to Brighton, attracted by their track record of developing young players, and personal terms are also tentatively in place. Brighton’s initial offer of around £30 million was initially rebuffed by Tottenham, who placed a significantly higher valuation – almost £60 million – on the player due to his perceived potential.
However, sources suggest that Vuskovic’s representatives believe this valuation is excessive at this stage of his career, creating room for further negotiation. Despite this, Tottenham remain firm in their belief that Vuskovic could develop into one of Europe’s elite centre-backs. The willingness to negotiate is also influenced by Tottenham’s broader interest in Brighton players, with De Zerbi reportedly keen on bringing goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and midfielder Carlos Baleba to the club.
These wider ambitions have facilitated continued communication between the two clubs, with multiple discussions taking place to explore potential package deals. While valuations remain the primary obstacle, optimism exists on both sides that progress can be made. The move for Van Hecke is increasingly seen as a matter of time, while the situation surrounding Vuskovic remains fluid as negotiations continue.
