Stefano Sensi has reflected on the emotional moment he signed for Inter Milan, as the midfielder now prepares for a permanent transfer to Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta. The move, which is set to be finalized, marks the next chapter for the 31-year-old Italian, who currently plays for Anorthosis on loan. According to reports from Italian media, the transfer will see Sensi depart Inter on a free transfer, ending a seven-year association with the Nerazzurri that began with a memorable phone call in the summer of 2019.
In a recent interview, Sensi recounted how Inter's then-sporting director, Piero Ausilio, contacted him while he was on holiday in Formentera to secure his signature from Sassuolo. "He called me while I was in Formentera, my legs were trembling," Sensi said, describing the overwhelming emotion of joining a club he supported as a boy. His initial season under Antonio Conte was impressive, as he quickly became a key creative force in Inter's midfield, contributing three goals and four assists in his first 22 Serie A appearances and helping the club reach the Europa League final.
However, a series of persistent injury problems severely limited his involvement in the following seasons. Sensi made only 40 total appearances across all competitions after his debut campaign, spending the 2023-24 season on loan at Monza before his loan move to Anorthosis last summer. At the Cypriot club, he has rediscovered his form and influence, registering eight goals and six assists in the league this season, acting as the team's primary playmaker.
For Inter, this transfer represents the formal conclusion of a relationship that had already de facto ended, allowing the club to remove Sensi's salary from its books. For Anorthosis, securing Sensi permanently is a significant coup, as they acquire an experienced, technically gifted midfielder proven at the highest level to be the cornerstone of their project. The move makes pragmatic sense for all parties, offering Sensi a stable home where he is appreciated and can continue to play a leading role.
His departure from Inter is one of several expected this summer as the club continues to manage its squad and financial profile. While his time in Milan was ultimately defined by unfulfilled potential due to fitness issues, Sensi's poignant recollection of his arrival underscores the powerful personal significance the transfer held for him, even as he now prepares to build his future thousands of miles away.
