Pascal Stenzel will leave VfB Stuttgart at the end of the season when his contract expires, the club announced on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old defender joined Stuttgart in 2017 when the club was in the 2. Bundesliga and departs after helping them achieve promotion, secure Bundesliga survival, and recently qualify for the Champions League alongside winning the DFB-Pokal.
Stuttgart’s board member for sport, Fabian Wohlgemuth, praised Stenzel’s commitment during his time at the club, noting his reliability as a player and his representation of the club’s values.
Stenzel made 139 appearances for Stuttgart across all competitions, becoming a consistent figure in their squad over the past seven years.
“7 years in the Stuttgart shirt – not only special because of the long time, but above all because of all the unforgettable moments we experienced together,” Stenzel said in a statement released by the club.
He reflected on the team’s journey from the 2. Bundesliga to European competition, expressing gratitude for the support he received both on and off the pitch.
Stenzel expressed disappointment at not being able to say goodbye in a Stuttgart shirt but thanked everyone involved in his journey with the club.
While no destination has been announced, Stenzel will be available on a free transfer this summer, potentially attracting interest from clubs both within the Bundesliga and elsewhere.
His departure leaves a void in Stuttgart’s squad, though the club’s recent success suggests they are well-positioned to find a suitable replacement. The move allows Stenzel to seek a new challenge after a successful and lengthy spell with the Swabians.
