VfB Stuttgart have turned down an approach from Hull City for right-back Josha Vagnoman, according to Kicker. The newly-promoted Premier League side enquired about taking the 25-year-old on loan, but Stuttgart were unwilling to consider a temporary deal.
Reports from Sport Bild had previously linked Vagnoman with a move to Hull City as they look to strengthen their squad following promotion to the Premier League. However, Stuttgart are prioritizing retaining depth within their team, particularly in defence.
Stuttgart’s reluctance to allow Vagnoman to leave on loan stems from an injury to Lorenz Assignon, who is expected to be sidelined for several weeks following shoulder surgery. This leaves Vagnoman as a key backup option at right-back for head coach Sebastian Hoeneß. The club views maintaining a strong squad as crucial ahead of their upcoming Champions League campaign.
Hoeneß recently emphasized the importance of squad depth, referencing the demands of competing in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League, as Stuttgart experienced two seasons ago. He stated the need for a “very strong team ready to go” as they prepare for a challenging season. Vagnoman has established himself as a valuable member of the Stuttgart squad since joining from Hamburger SV in January 2022.
Vagnoman’s current contract with Stuttgart is valid until 2028, indicating the club’s long-term faith in the player. While a permanent transfer was also considered unlikely at this stage, the door remains closed on any potential move for Vagnoman this summer. This decision reinforces Stuttgart’s commitment to competing on multiple fronts with a largely unchanged squad.
This outcome leaves Hull City continuing their search for defensive reinforcements as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.
