Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac has named Niklas Süle, Felix Nmecha and Karim Adeyemi in his squad for Friday’s Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt. The trio have all recovered from recent injuries and are available for selection at Signal Iduna Park, according to Ruhr Nachrichten. Kovac had previously confirmed Adeyemi’s return at a press conference on Thursday, while indicating that the availability of Nmecha and Süle would be decided closer to kickoff.
Süle’s inclusion is particularly notable given his announcement earlier on Thursday that he intends to retire from professional football at the end of the current season. The 29-year-old centre-back joined Dortmund in 2022 from Bayern Munich, having previously established himself as a key player for the Bavarian side. His career has been hampered by injuries in recent seasons, contributing to his difficult decision to retire.
Nmecha, a summer signing from Wolfsburg, has quickly become an important component of Dortmund’s midfield. The 23-year-old’s return provides Kovac with additional options in the centre of the pitch, strengthening the team’s overall quality. He has featured prominently when fit, demonstrating his versatility and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively.
Adeyemi’s return from injury is a boost to Dortmund’s attacking options. The 22-year-old forward has shown flashes of brilliance since joining from Red Bull Salzburg, possessing pace and a clinical eye for goal. His presence will offer a different dimension to Dortmund’s attack, potentially unlocking stubborn defences.
The inclusion of all three players provides Kovac with a near full-strength squad for the encounter with Frankfurt. Dortmund currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga table, aiming to close the gap on the league leaders. A victory over Frankfurt would be a significant step towards achieving their Champions League qualification ambitions. The return of key players like Süle, Nmecha and Adeyemi will undoubtedly increase their chances of securing a positive result.
