Haris Tabakovic has completed a permanent transfer from TSG Hoffenheim to RB Salzburg, the Austrian Bundesliga club confirmed on Friday. The 32-year-old forward joins Salzburg after a single season with Hoffenheim, punctuated by a successful loan spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by either club.
Tabakovic arrived at Hoffenheim in January 2024 from Sturm Graz, but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in the Bundesliga. He made a total of 29 appearances for the club, scoring four goals across all competitions. A loan move to Mönchengladbach followed for the 2024-25 season, proving to be a turning point in his recent form.
At Mönchengladbach, Tabakovic showcased his goalscoring ability, netting 13 times in 32 appearances. This resurgence reportedly attracted interest from several clubs, ultimately leading to the agreement with RB Salzburg. Hoffenheim sporting director Paul Pajduch acknowledged the success of the loan spell, stating that Tabakovic “proved his qualities as a centre-forward” during his time with Mönchengladbach.
Pajduch also explained the reasoning behind the sale, citing an “economically attractive overall package” as a key factor in the joint decision with the player to pursue a permanent transfer. He thanked Tabakovic for his time at TSG and wished him well for the future. Salzburg will be hoping Tabakovic can replicate his recent form as they look to maintain their dominance in the Austrian Bundesliga and compete in European competitions. The move provides Tabakovic with a clear pathway to regular first-team football and a fresh challenge in a new league.
Tabakovic began his professional career with FC Wil in Switzerland before moving to Austria, where he enjoyed spells with SV Horn and Sturm Graz. His impressive goalscoring record in Austria initially caught the attention of Hoffenheim, though his time there was ultimately brief. Salzburg’s acquisition represents a significant addition to their attacking options, adding a proven goalscorer to their squad.
